Melissa McCarthy Slams Malls For Segregating Plus-Size Women, Clothing Stores

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Actress Melissa McCarthy is preparing to release a new clothing line, and she has a message for shopping malls — “people don’t stop at size 12!”
The “Mike & Molly” star, 44, told “More” magazine, “… malls segregate plus-size. It’s an odd thing that you can’t go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section. There is just this weird thing about how we perceive women in this country. I would love to be a part of breaking that down.”
McCarthy has lost over 40 pounds recently, and credits it to Pilates, but says she doesn’t beat herself up over being a certain size.
“Sometimes I wish I were just magically a size 6 and I never had to give [my weight] a single thought,” McCarthy said. “[But] I don’t beat myself up about it — it wouldn’t help and I don’t want to pass that on to my girls.”
“Honestly whatever makes her comfortable is what’s important as long as she’s healthy she’s comfortable with who she is,” said fan Chenezza Graham.
Another fan Jennifer Edson added, “I think Melissa McCarthy is a great spokesperson and it doesn’t matter what’s on the cover of a magazine. I think we all just have to give everybody a break.”
McCarthy’s new clothing line will be for women of all sizes, 4-28, and available at stores like Nordstrom, Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s in August.
Her new movie, “Spy” hits theaters in July.
